Tempted to Return

Tempted to Return

Letting go of a relationship that no longer serves us, even one that harms us, can be incredibly difficult. Even when we know it is the right choice, the pull to return can feel almost irresistible.

Sometimes, the formality of separation makes it even harder. Loneliness creeps in, and we find ourselves reminiscing about the "good times." But in an unhealthy relationship, those moments are often fleeting, part of a cycle of extreme highs and lows. The instability keeps us emotionally hooked, even though a truly healthy relationship is meant to provide a sense of security and stability.

This is where seeking a professional can be invaluable. A professional can help us move forward and hold us accountable, ensuring that we follow through on the commitments we make to ourselves. If we do not, we risk not only disappointing ourselves but also the person guiding us through the process. This accountability fosters a deeper sense of self-respect, reinforcing that our choices matter and that we are capable of creating a life that truly supports us.

Every relationship has both light and shadow. No one is perfect. But when the darkness overshadows the light, when a relationship drains rather than nurtures us, it becomes unhealthy. Love should be an act of self-respect, not self-abandonment.
