What is the meaning of life?

What is the meaning of life?

We love, we eat, and we travel, hoping that through these experiences we can build a life that is considered excellent.
When I became a Christian at seventeen, there was one prayer I kept coming back to. I prayed, God, please give me wisdom. Help me find what gives my life purpose, so I know why I wake up every morning.

After years of being shaped through struggle, I found it. I found the thing that truly gives my life meaning, helping people build body confidence. I can say this clearly now. I no longer struggle with suicidal thoughts, which I once had. There was a time when I woke up feeling that life had no meaning at all. That feeling was the most frightening experience of my life. Living just to survive, without any deeper reason, creates a quiet but heavy emptiness.

Today, I understand my talents and how I can use them to serve others. That understanding gives me a reason to live. I have learned that life loses its depth when enjoyment is the only goal. A life where we do nothing and simply consume pleasure is often seen as ideal, but it is overrated. Scripture speaks to this clearly through Solomon’s story. Even abundance without meaning leads to emptiness. Research also consistently shows that what brings lasting happiness is not pleasure alone, but meaning.

If you are reading this and still searching for your path, you may recognise this feeling. The emptiness. The quiet confusion about why so many people chase what advertisements tell us to own. Often, people are not chasing objects. They are chasing recognition. Deep down, they are searching for happiness.

Now I wake up with purpose. Yet I still get distracted. I notice what other people are doing. I compare. I question whether I am truly living a good life. One moment I am deeply moved by a carols concert. The next moment I see someone else doing something impressive, and I start doubting myself. This is how distraction works. The moment you shift your focus to others, your joy quietly slips away. What other people are doing has nothing to do with you. It is like enjoying a lamb sandwich you genuinely love. You do not need to question your enjoyment just because someone else is eating an elaborate brunch with beautiful decorations. If you are happy, then you are happy.

Be grateful that you can feel satisfied with a simple sandwich and do not need an elaborate brunch every morning to experience joy. That means your happiness is not fragile. It is not dependent on circumstances. You do not lose joy simply because life looks simple that day.

The ability to experience happiness with low expectations is a powerful skill. It means you are not conditioned to believe that you need more, newer, or better things in order to be happy. This belief is exactly how commercial marketing persuades people to buy products.

If you are happy, you are happy. There is no such thing as low grade happiness or high grade happiness. Happiness is happiness. Do not allow daily advertising to train you to believe otherwise.

Can you recognise me in the photo. I had no front teeth...😅
