ㄅ ㄆ ㄇ ㄈ 跟英語發音符號 IPA的不同

Many Mandarin speakers feel confused when learning English pronunciation because the same English letter can produce different sounds. In Mandarin, ㄅ ㄆ ㄇ ㄈ always stay the same, but English spelling does not work like this. One letter in English can change its sound depending on the word, the vowels beside it, and even the origin of the word. This is why pronunciation often feels harder for Taiwanese learners, especially when the spelling does not match the sound.

The letter C is one of the clearest examples. In many Australian English words, C sounds like a K, such as in cat and cup. In other words, C sounds like an S, such as in city or centre. In a few cases, C sounds like CH, such as in cello. The same letter, but three different sounds. This shows that English spelling cannot always tell you the true pronunciation. You cannot rely on letters alone to know how a word should sound.

This is where IPA becomes very helpful. IPA gives you one clear symbol for one sound. It works very much like Bopomofo in Mandarin. Instead of guessing from spelling, you read the IPA symbols and immediately know how to pronounce the word. Once you learn the IPA sounds, reading English becomes easier and speaking becomes more natural, especially for learners from Taiwan who prefer a clear and logical system.

Understanding that one English letter can represent different sounds is an important first step toward improving your pronunciation. When you stop depending on spelling and start listening to real sounds, you will build confidence and speak English in a clearer and more natural way. I will keep sharing simple and useful explanations to help you master Australian English pronunciation and feel more comfortable using English in daily life.
