Would you believe that someone might offer help or share something just for a simple thank you, or not even anything in return?
I remember a time when a gentleman posted on Facebook, inviting people to join a group on a Sunday weekend where he planned to teach photography for free. At the time, I was eager to learn photography, so I reached out to him. But instead of simply saying, "Thank you," I asked, Why are you doing this for free?
I followed up with more questions that, in hindsight, could make someone feel uncomfortable. Deep down, I didn’t trust his intentions. I found it hard to believe that anyone would do something nice without expecting something in return.
That was years ago. Back then, I had unknowingly built an invisible wall between myself and others. I thought I was being cautious, but in reality, I was isolating myself and missing out on meaningful connections.
Today, I’m grateful for the lessons life has taught me. I’ve learned to open up, to trust that people can be kind just for the joy of giving, whether they’re thanked or not. The world is full of good things, and I’ve discovered that I can enjoy genuine connections without constantly searching for the “catch.”
