Forgiveness


Sometimes, personal troubles and worries linger, no matter how many self-help books we read in an effort to make sense of them.

Take forgiveness, for example. It is not easy. Especially when just thinking about certain people still brings a dull ache. Deep down, we wanted to be seen, heard, and understood by them. But what we received did not match what we hoped for.

Expectations are standards we place on others. When those expectations, especially for people we believed should have known better, are not met, disappointment naturally follows. But what if we allowed space for exceptions, just as we do with family? We do not walk away from a family member forever just because of one hurtful comment. Instead, we might pause, feel the sting, but still choose to stay.

By letting go of the belief that they should have known better, we release the anger we carry in our bodies. We can soften and say, it is okay. We all have moments when we speak or act without full awareness. We have all been there.
