I recently got this question from someone interested in attending our event:
“Is your book talk suitable for a young boy under 18?”
It is such an important and thoughtful question, and I wanted to take a moment to answer it here.
While the talk naturally includes stories from my own journey, and since I am female, many of those examples reflect a woman’s experience, this event is definitely not just for women. It is for anyone who has ever questioned their self worth or struggled with how they see themselves, including young and mature men. We also explore research in body image psychology and use an evidence based framework to guide the conversation, making it meaningful for all genders and ages.
This event is all about self acceptance and building confidence from within. It is not about beauty products or physical changes. It is about how we view ourselves, how we show up in the world, and how we learn to stand in our worth regardless of appearance.
When I was younger, I struggled deeply with low self worth and poor self esteem. It affected how I saw myself, how I showed up in my career, and how I related to others. Over time, I realised that many adults still carry the pain and doubt formed in their earlier years. That is why I care so much about this topic. If we can start these conversations earlier, especially with young people, we give them a greater chance of growing into confident, grounded adults who do not have to spend years healing from silent struggles.
I have also had the privilege of speaking with youth councils and young male leaders, and I have seen firsthand how deeply the message resonates. It gives them a new lens through which to understand confidence, leadership, and how they relate to both themselves and those around them.
So yes, I truly believe this book talk is suitable for young people under 18. Your son will be warmly welcomed and will likely walk away with something meaningful. We already have some male attendees, and this message is for everyone, no matter their gender.
Whether you are someone currently struggling with self image, a parent supporting a child, or simply someone who wants to make a positive impact and support a healthier cultural message, you are most welcome. Any age, any gender, come as you are.
