Living with Standards

Living with Standards

When we promote the idea of not chasing unrealistic beauty standards, it doesn’t mean we should throw on pajamas and face the world, hoping to be accepted purely for how we look. It’s about finding that sweet spot, a balance where we can embrace our natural features while also presenting ourselves in a way that makes us feel confident and aligned with our true selves.

Self-expression is a powerful tool. We can decorate ourselves through clothing, accessories, or even the beliefs we hold, creating a unique personal style that reflects who we are. However, if achieving a certain look requires sacrificing parts of ourselves, whether it’s our comfort, identity, or values, this crosses into the realm of self-abandonment.

For instance, wearing something trendy but uncomfortable, or dressing to impress others while feeling out of sync with your true self, can be a subtle indicator that more time should be spent understanding and embracing your personal style. The goal is to feel at ease and confident, knowing that how you look reflects your authentic self, not an imposed ideal.

Living authentically doesn’t mean rejecting all beauty standards or trends; it means thoughtfully choosing what aligns with who you are. It’s about having the confidence to say, "This is me," and owning it, fully and unapologetically. When you embrace this mindset, you create a version of yourself that is both true and beautiful on your own terms.
