Love Where You Are, Even in Unpleasant Seasons

Love Where You Are, Even in Unpleasant Seasons

As the season of gift-giving and family celebrations unfolds, it's natural to reflect on our own lives. We might find ourselves comparing: "Am I enjoying the holidays as much as Dan's family?" or "Are the gifts I received as good as the ones Jacqueline just posted on Facebook?"

These comparisons can sometimes leave us feeling lonely or unworthy.

Looking back on a childhood filled with difficult years and contrasting them with happier times after moving to Australia, I’ve come to a realization: those unpleasant years were like the icing on the cake of life. They gave me a deeper understanding of contrast, helping me appreciate the good even more.

Downs are a must. Without them, the ups wouldn’t shine as brightly. Those challenges add layers of meaning and richness to our joyful moments.

That said, if life presents us with challenges, let’s do our best to make the most of them, to “make the downs right.” Because one day, when we look back, we’ll see how those struggles contributed to life’s vibrant tapestry.

Wherever you are right now, embrace it. Love it. And if it feels imperfect, work to make it better. One day, you’ll look back and taste the full spectrum of life’s colors, appreciating it for its beauty and complexity.
