Magic Happens When There Is No Magic

Magic Happens When There Is No Magic

One day, I prepared some whipped cream to pair with a Classic French Pastry Mille-Feuille that I had purchased from a shop.

I shared it with a friend who happens to be a great cook. After tasting just one spoonful of the whipped cream, he looked at me in surprise and asked, “What did you put in this cream?”

I simply replied, “Nothing.”

Australians often add vanilla extract, sugar, or other ingredients to whipped cream. While I can appreciate those extras for enhancing flavor, I personally prefer simplicity. A little sugar is all I need for sweets, and the sweetness from the pastry itself was already perfect for me. By keeping the cream plain, I got to taste the original flavor of the French pastry, unmasked and true to its essence.

This experience made me reflect on life. So often, we believe we need all these extras, more effort, more enhancements, more "magic", to feel like we’re doing things right or to look good in the eyes of others. But sometimes, simplicity is enough.

Maybe you look beautiful without makeup. There’s a quiet kind of magic in embracing what’s already there.
