Our local church hosts a Bible study group where we read Bible verses out loud. Some vocabulary words were challenging to pronounce, as I use them sparingly, even though I've been in Australia for eight years.
Whenever I am in an unfamiliar situation, I feel frustrated that I somehow look unintelligent. However, I enjoy the process of learning and pushing my boundaries.
The more I immerse myself in unfamiliar situations, the more I grow.
We tend to stay in our comfort zones because they're safe and familiar. Stepping out of them requires courage and vulnerability.
I remember waking up ten years ago to study an English magazine for 30 minutes every morning. I kept at it even though I didn't understand everything in the magazine.
Every minute I invested in learning English was valuable. It enabled me to write, speak a second language, and adapt to life in a foreign country.
If we're always afraid of looking foolish in front of others, we allow ourselves and others to hinder our progress and deter us from learning new things.
When we step out of our comfort zone long enough, the courage zone eventually becomes our new comfort zone. That's when real growth happens.
What courage zone do you wish to tap into but are holding back by your fear and doubts?
