Not a Gimmick, a Gift

Not a Gimmick, a Gift

In the Netflix series Nonnas, Michael spread rumors about Joe, the man behind the dream of recreating an authentic Italian family atmosphere by hiring real nonnas as chefs in his restaurant. Michael claimed Joe was using them as gimmicks.

Antonella, one of the nonnas and Michael’s friend, confronted him and said, “Did you tell everyone not to come to my restaurant because you think Joe is using me? He’s not using me. He’s celebrating me.”

That moment really moved me. To have your work, your presence, your culture celebrated rather than exploited is something many people never experience. It made me reflect. How many of us have ever had the chance to be in an environment where we are seen and valued just as we are?

Instead of constantly reshaping ourselves to fit social expectations, what if we searched for the right environment? A place where our uniqueness is embraced, not questioned. A place where we do not have to be a good girl or a good boy to earn love or acceptance.

When we are around people who recognize and celebrate our worth, we begin to see ourselves differently too. And maybe that is where true belonging begins.

At C C Within, this is the kind of space I strive to create. For every person who has ever felt too plain, too different, or not enough. I believe your truth is not a flaw to fix but a gift to share. That does not mean we stop growing. We can still improve, stretch, and evolve. But not to erase who we are. Growth should deepen our truth, not replace it.

Feel free to share if this speaks to you.
