In a casual conversation with a male friend, I was surprised to learn that he, despite his considerable wealth, still felt a longing for more money and power.
Sometimes, we believe that having more money and power is how we can gain attention from the opposite gender and be loved by the people around us.
Some automatically think they are not wealthy or powerful enough if someone rejects them. Sometimes, it may not be the case. People reject each other for many reasons. Sometimes, it is not the right time and has nothing to do with money and power.
In our society, many people, regardless of gender, seek partners who are financially well-off and often compare their social status to others.
Being financially stable is still essential. We all wish to build a functional and sustainable family with our future partner.
However, if people genuinely love who we are—our personality and other things we cultivate over the years that make us who we are—they will love us regardless of our social status and how much money we have in our bank.
We all yearn to be loved and seen by the people around us. But more profoundly, we genuinely wish to be loved unconditionally. This kind of love brings joy, uplifts our spirits, and gives us hope for a brighter future.
For some, the people in their lives have demonstrated that they must have something so they will get something in return.
For instance, I've heard of cases where parents favour the child with the best grades, showering them with attention and love, while the child who struggles in school is often ignored.
It gives us the belief that we always need to do an exchange of love.
We don't need to gain more power and money to be indeed seen and heard. If this is the case, we are not indeed seen and heard by the people asking for it in an exchange of love. Instead, we must accept who we are; the right people will see and appreciate us.
