The Next Shining Career

The Next Shining Career

When I was around 19, I spent one or two years in Taiwan and Australia, moving between cities and changing jobs.

I did this intentionally to explore different cultures and careers, while also swinging between survival and finding a career I was passionate about. It was a time of self-discovery and learning, where every experience helped shape the direction I wanted to take.

For six years, I dedicated myself to building my bookbinding business from the ground up. It taught me invaluable lessons about perseverance, problem-solving, and resilience. Over time, it grew into a thriving venture with loyal customers and a solid online reputation. However, the journey wasn’t without its challenges. Some days were incredibly tough, even after the business had started to thrive. I had to figure out how to create an efficient system to manage daily operations, so I could free up time to focus on developing other areas of the business.

During those challenging times, I found my attention shifting to other people’s “shining” careers. Seeing others’ seemingly perfect paths made me wonder if I was on the right one or if I should start fresh in a different field. But I eventually realized that this was more about avoiding the stress of the moment than about a genuine desire to leave what I had worked so hard to build.

This experience taught me the importance of self-reflection before making a career shift. It’s easy to be tempted by the allure of others’ thriving careers, especially when scrolling through social media or hearing stories of friends who seem to have it all figured out. But before diving into something new, it’s worth asking: Does this truly excite me? Can I see myself staying passionate about this path over time? Or am I simply influenced by the shiny facade of someone else’s life?

For me, moving into a second career was not about running from challenges but about embracing a calling that aligns with my values and interests. It’s been a rewarding journey of growth and exploration, and I’m grateful to have found something I love so deeply.
