The Show Was Awful

The Show Was Awful

“The show was so awful.”

That is what a gentleman told his wife after returning from a performance he had originally invited her to attend. She had turned it down, so he took their son instead.

Hearing his comment, his wife said, “See? Lucky I did not go.”

Later, their son still glowing from how much he enjoyed the show asked, “Dad, why did you say that? It was amazing. We both loved it.”

The father smiled and said,
“Because sometimes, keeping the peace matters more than proving a point. Love is more important than being right.”

I heard this story from a kind gentleman in Taiwan and I have never forgotten it. It is a beautiful reminder that you can win the argument and lose the person. Sometimes, losing is actually winning because you chose love over ego.
