The Weight of Entitlement

The Weight of Entitlement

People ask questions for different reasons, some with good intentions, others with bad, and some with no intention at all. However, certain questions are crafted to achieve something more: to gain entitlements or validation.

True self-esteem comes from a place of equality. It’s the belief that, no matter where we come from, our social status, background, or wealth, we are all equal and deserving of the same respect. No one is more, and no one is less.

But when our self-esteem isn’t rooted in equality and instead stems from a sense of entitlement, it reveals a deeper issue. Entitlement often arises from constant comparison with others. This endless measuring of our worth against someone else’s leads to a cycle of seeking validation and feeling inadequate. Over time, this can result in stress, fatigue, and the overwhelming sense of never being enough.

Sometimes, we might feel that because we don’t look a certain way, perhaps we believe we’re “not beautiful enough”, we don’t deserve certain things. On the other hand, we might think that we’re “too beautiful” and therefore entitled to everything, while others who don’t match our standard of beauty deserve less. Both perspectives are flawed and stem from external comparisons.

Our worth should never be determined by physical appearances or comparisons with others. When we base our self-esteem on such superficial measures, we risk losing sight of the deeper truth: that our value is inherent and independent of external factors. Beauty is subjective, and true self-worth comes from recognizing our inner qualities, not relying on how we perceive ourselves in relation to others.

True self-worth comes not from what we think we deserve compared to others, but from understanding our inherent value without comparison.
