Wealth fades, but generosity leaves a legacy.

Wealth fades, but generosity leaves a legacy.

In the Disney film Woman Walks Ahead, Sitting Bull shares this wisdom with Catherine Weldon, a woman from New York:
“People are valued by how much they have; we are valued by how much we give.”

In our modern world, we are often taught that our worth is measured by how much we own. It is easy to look up the net worth of the wealthiest people, as if money alone defines a person’s value.

I am still learning this lesson myself, how to give freely and generously while also making sure I do not pour from an empty cup. It is not always easy to balance giving with living sustainably, especially when society keeps telling us that having more means being more. But over time, I have come to see that having enough, not necessarily more, can already make us capable of giving in meaningful ways. At the same time, sometimes the more we have, the more we are able to give out to support others too.

True giving does not come from overflowing pockets but from a full heart. Deep down, we know this. Giving enriches not only the lives of others but our own as well. And the most beautiful kind of giving happens when we expect nothing in return.
