People often describe the years after a divorce as wasted time. But I’ve come to see it differently.
If a couple has been together for more than 10 years and life eventually takes them in different directions, choosing to part ways is not a failure. It is an act of courage. It means they have decided not to spend the next 20 years in a relationship that no longer fits who they are becoming.
What once worked beautifully between two people may not last forever. Growth does not happen at the same pace for everyone. And sometimes we cannot even explain why we have changed. We just know we have. That is part of being human.
I deeply admire couples who have been together for 40 years or more and still hold hands on the street. They are living proof that long term love is possible. Like building a business, a lasting relationship faces challenges, but with effort and mutual care, some couples find ways to keep growing together.
But if two people eventually separate, that does not erase the joy they once shared. Those 10 years were not wasted. They were filled with laughter, connection, and memories that mattered.
There is nothing to regret. Only something to carry forward. And so much to look forward to in the next chapter.
