Your Little Mundane Matters

Your Little Mundane Matters

“How are you?”
“I’m all good.”

It’s one of the most common exchanges in daily life, but also one of the most overlooked. Many of us give quick, polite answers without much thought. We say we’re fine, good, or busy, just to keep things moving.

In many cultures, especially in places like Australia, “How are you” is often used as a greeting. It’s not always meant to start a deep conversation. So we get used to brushing it off, even when asked by someone close. But what if we paused for a second? What if we saw that question as an invitation, not a formality?

The truth is, a lot of people have been taught to hide their true feelings. I grew up in Taiwan, where expressing emotions openly wasn’t something we were encouraged to do. I became used to holding it all in. I didn’t even realise it was happening.

Over time, I’ve started to shift. Not all at once, but gently. When someone I trust asks how I am, I try to offer a little more. Maybe a small truth. A moment that felt heavy or something that made me laugh. Nothing dramatic. Just honest.

What I’ve learned is this. When we share something small, it makes room for connection. It reminds the people around us that we are human, and it gives them permission to be human too. We all have ordinary days. Quiet thoughts. Feelings that don’t always fit into neat categories. And those little things? They matter.

So maybe the next time someone asks how you are, you could share just a little more. Not everything. Just something true.

Because every moment matters.
Every feeling counts.
And so do you.

You are lovable.
You are enough.
And your ordinary moments are part of an extraordinary life.
